Sahajananda

Beloved Hridaya Sangha,

Happiness needs nothing,
Unhappiness needs many things.
And yet,
In happiness and in unhappiness,
With any thing and with no thing—Who am I?

~Sahajananda

An Inspiring Season

Greetings from Mazunte! This year has already proven to be one of growth and grace for Hridaya, and our community in Mazunte continues to blossom. More and more students have felt inspired to join us and share the spiritual ideal of living with an Open Heart.

To best support our students on the path of Self-enquiry, Sahajananda and a team of teachers have developed a series of Hridaya Hatha Yoga modules. This March, we debuted Module 3. Module 4 will begin in the autumn, and we will continue introducing two new modules every year.
The teachings in the Hridaya Modules are inspired mainly from the traditional texts of hatha yoga: the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Gheranda Samhita, the Shiva Samhita, the Upanishads, etc. The modules not only include instruction in asanas and pranayama, but also many other hatha yoga and meditation techniques to awaken Kundalini Shakti in order to purify and transcend the mind.

Once again, our 49-day Prathyabhijna Retreat inspired the whole community to go deeper in Stillness. The participants of the retreat shared their wisdom, insights, and heartening recollections at two sharing sessions following the retreat. Their radiant presence revealed a yearning for longer retreats in many other students. In fact, several participants of the 17-day retreat spontaneously chose to continue meditating, and moved to a secluded hotel to spend two additional weeks in solitude.

Our recent workshop series was another eloquent expression of our vision. Sahajananda’s Art of Awareness invited us to reconsider some apparently well-known concepts like space, the body, the sense organs, social relationships, etc. It was a fascinating invitation to explore new contemplative attitudes from the non-dual Tantric tradition. Antoaneta’s Practical Tantra helped us restore the connection between sexuality, love, and sacredness. It conveyed the authentic message of Left-hand Tantra—from two individuals to Oneness, from pleasure to beyond pleasure, from ordinary to extraordinary. Claud’s From Pain to Peace again inspired many to transform their suffering into spiritual lucidity.

Visiting instructor Zola Dubnikova offered women the month-long Initiation into Temple Dance Arts. The program featured regular daily meetings as well as two intensive workshops, resulting in a beautiful bond between the women and an intimate final ritual that was shared with the school.

And, as we recently announced, an important new Hridaya project is starting in Europe: Ramana Village – Meditation Land.

Upcoming Courses

Summer is a quieter time at our home in Mazunte, but we will continue to offer monthly 3- and 10-day Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreats, Module 1 Intensives, and Module 2. Many students report that they love the intimacy and calm this time of year brings to the Center, so it is a great time to visit and sink deeper in the Heart. See the calendar for our complete schedule.

We are very happy to announce the publication of the Hridaya Intensive Yoga Retreat: Module 1 supplementary course book.
